Championship Wisdom From Coach Pat Summitt

A Talk by Ira Blumenthal (Pat Summitt Leadership Group)

About this Talk

When Coach Pat Summitt retired, she was the winningest coach in all of college basketball. In her 38 year career at the University of Tennessee, Coach Summitt won 1,098 games, 8 national championships, never missed an NCAA tournament, made it to the Final Four 18 times, won 32 SEC championships, was the only woman listed on US News & World Report’s “Top 100 Coaches of All Sports, All Time," and was named “Coach of the Year” 15 times. The NCAA and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame named her the “Coach of The Century”… and her honors go on and on. But Pat Summitt was most proud that in 38 years of coaching, she graduated 100% of her players. She was clearly an American treasure and a sports icon.

In this fast-paced session entitled “Reaching Your Summitt,” Pat Summitt Leadership Group co-founder, Ira Blumenthal, takes coaches through four of Coach Summitt’s profound DEFINITE DOZEN© principles for educating and inspiring individuals on LEADERSHIP and SUCCESS. With all the Pat Summitt video clips in this program, it feels like Blumenthal and Coach Summitt co-host this program.

The four principles covered are “Respect,” “Responsibility,” “Change” and “Discipline.” The messages and presentation is one no coach should miss. The content is taken directly from the Pat Summitt Leadership Group’s “Definite Dozen Leadership Kit,” a system for coaching leadership and success… especially focused on high school girl student-athletes in all sports.

The Pat Summitt Leadership Group extends a special thank you to the Texas Basketball Coaches Association for caring enough to host this wonderful conference… in the midst of some tough and challenging times. Caring was important to Coach Summitt. She often said, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”
